backpacks of hope

BACKPACKS OF HOPE provides weekend meals for children and their families every week of the school year. (approximately 40 weeks of the year). We believe in feeding both the children and their parents. In the 2015-16 school year we served 100 families weekly from local schools in the Everett, Snohomish and Edmonds School District. We hope to add an additional 50 families for the 2016-17 school year.

Backpacks are filled on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings. If you want to get involved in packing , leading a food drive at a local grocery store, or donating to this program, complete the volunteer form. There is a Food Bin in the lobby of Gold Creek Church where you can drop off donations Monday-Friday between 8:30 AM-4:00 PM.

We have partnered with different senior centers to provide a special program or activity each month. Activities include children and parents and include events such as decorating pumpkins with the patients,  Veteran’s day programs, a resident fashion show, Christmas caroling and more.

We maintain a volunteer-driven garden that provides fresh food to those in need in our area. We donate a percentage of our harvest to the Mill Creek Food Bank and also for families and volunteers in our community. Last year 750 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables were harvested and donated.

Please email us at if you are interested in volunteering. We would love to have you join us!

Once a year more than 2000 volunteers participate throughout Snohomish County completing big and small projects in their communities. County parks, local Elementary and High schools, Cocoon House, McCollum Pool, Trinity Home, Interfaith Home, family residences and senior citizen’s homes are among some of the projects that are populated by a “sea” of volunteers. Also, oil changes, haircuts, car washes, manicures and a health clinic will be provided free of charge in various locations.
